I don't think Curt would have much of a shot winning any eecltion. Is there anyone out there who actually likes him? For all he did for Boston, still every Boston fan I know doesn't really like him, they just respond to questions with something like, well, I'm really happy for what he helped accomplish for us, but he should shut his mouth because he's an idiot. As for Moose in Hall, I guess it makes sense that he not get in if we look at his peers who will be getting nominated around the same time- Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Randy Johnson, Clemens, Pedro. Those are all guys who were incredibly dominant. Moose, as great as he was, just wasn't in that league. While I have never thought much of Glavine, he does have the magic number and that's what counts to get him over the hump. As far as Moose playing on the Orioles in the 90s and Yankees in the 2000s, that's true that that probably helped him get some wins, but it's also true that pitching in the AL East probably took away it's fair share of wins from him. Facing at various times the Sox, Yankees, Orioles, and Blue Jays is not an easy task- far more difficult than playing in other divisions. This is the premier offense division and probably always will be.Side note: if Moose shouldn't get in before Blyleven- should Schilling get in before him? Or before Jack Morris for that matter? Schilling's got the 3000+ strikeouts, but he doesn't have the win total of Moose or Blyleven (who also has more Ks, as do Clemens, the Unit, Maddux, and Pedro). He also has the postseason record, making him similar to Morris. If you put those together does it make him Hall worthy? I don't know. I think right now people think he and Moose should get in, but in five years from now, with some perspective, I think people will answer no.'

Well, I don't think postseason rcoerd should really be taken into consideration by the HOF, that is what led to the terrible inductions of guys like Bill Mazeroski and Kirby Puckett. And if you look at Schilling's comparables they are: Kevin Brown, Bob Welch, Orel Hershiser, Freddie Fitzsimmons, John Smoltz, Milt Pappas, Don Drysdale, Dazzy Vance, Jim Perry, and Catfish Hunter. Only three current HOFers and one likely (Smoltz). I think the names Kevin Brown, Bob Welch, and Orel Hershiser are the ones that stand out more to me here. Those guys are his comparables and while each is borderline, none of them are getting in. If you are going to put Schilling in because of his postseason performance, then what about Orel's postseason performance? Outside of 1985 (very early in his career) and 1997 (very late in his career), the guy was an absolute ace. Look at his numbers in the World Series for the Dodgers in 88 and even though he took the losses, his two starts in 95 for the Indians were great! He just had the misfortune of facing vintage Greg Maddux in the first game, but did beat him in game 5. The WHIP and Ks of Schill are better, but the ERAs and Ws are just about the same, plus Orel won a Cy Young (something Schill never did) and set the rcoerd 59 consecutive scoreless innings pitched.

Memphis baby! Now that's an impressive win. Still won't pick them to beat Ohio State, which is on some sort of magic caeprt ride, but they've answered the critics. BB, how could you be tired of Southern Illinois? No Gonzaga they. That team plays its butt off. It was an all-out war against Kansas one of the most intense games of the tournament. Tremendous effort exerted by both sides. I do believe I almost nailed that score on the head. The team to be tired of is Pitt. Same old story lose in the Big East final, lose in the Sweet 16. And of the 8 teams that played last night, Pitt was the lone no-show. Also, Oden was bad last night, but OSU will not win the national title unless he becomes a big part of it somewhere along the line. And although he stunk last night, he did make two huge free throws late and blocked the potential game-winning shot. There's a long history of stars who played awful games and didn't snap out of it at the very end. Oden did.

From what it sounds like Jerry C arino you wont be witring another article until September, so I wanted to throw out this observation and feeling for Seton Hall Basketball. Every year at this time, I have always tried to follow SHU basketball to find out what they are doing to prepare themselves for that upcoming season. Not being able to find anyone covering the program during the offseason, all I could do is hope they are doing something to better the basketball program. Thanks to sportswriters like Jerry Carino along with the others (Like Zag), this most important up coming season is approaching and people around me who are SHU fans are excited. They are excited that we were able to follow this team to find out about the excellent recruiting season thay had. That is fueling our excitement which we normally dont get until we are approaching Midnight Maddness in October. Seton Hall Basketball is entering a very important time in its life and it was good to be well informed so that we can be in a better position of excitement. Thanks to the sportswriters offseason coverage we know that Coach Gonzales enthusiasm will bring much glory to Seton Hall Basketball. Will take Seton Hall to heights they never experienced before (with all due respect to Honey Russell, PJ Carlesimo and even Tommy Amaker). Thanks to these sports writer who kept us SHU Fans informed of what SHU was doing on the recruting trail and now the added fortune of SHU playing in a brand new Arena and the Excitement is heigher at this time of the year then it has ever been. Just imagine what will happen with that excitement in September when the Students are back on the Campus and we hear the talk of Big East Conference on radio and TV. They will be talking about Big East Football, but to us who are in the Seton Hall Community, I feel our excitement will be the anticipation for October 15th and Midnight Madness. I am excited for Seton Hall Basketball, I am excited that they have a real basketball program under a Coach that is showing evidence of where he wants to take this program. And that is the same place I have always felt Seton Hall should be. This maybe a learning (get to know my teammates) year but whether they jell this year or not, it doesnt take away from what they will be, and that excites me. Thank you sports writers and please dont stop. Gonzo is not finish so I hope you wont be in letting us know what he does in season and off season.

No one loves college balaktbesl more than me, but it's an unequivocal fact that the high school football playoffs have a higher reader interest for a local paper than Seton Hall games against D-2s Bloomfield and Caldwell. If you saw the astounding number of hits our website gets for high school football content compared to everything else, you would agree. There were more fans at Immaculata-Hunterdon Central football Friday night than SHU-Bloomfield, and I suspect that will be the case this coming weekend as well.

What reminds me of Camp T? Wow, there are tons of thgnis that remind me of Camp. The smell of campfires is definitely at the top of the list. M'nMs. Saying the Praise God from whom all blessings flow grace. When I hear anything about Tippacanoe.Capture the Flag games. Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes (Related to a 4th of July skid where the army wound up wearing sunglasses) Teaching my kids about God is first, the other man second and I am Third . Occasionally wondering what the recipe for Orange Cake was from the Campfire Cooking Clinic. Now I think I am going to make Hobo Dinners this weekend for my family. mmmmmmmmKatie Foley
